Embezzling: It's the Corporate Way!

Post by Admin Canary »

You're playing an Exec! Congratulations. You've struggled your way up the latter, and now you're being trusted with a highly sensitive task, and more importantly, an expense account to to the tune of 5000 eb.

But you can't just use it for anything! It's for business expenses only, like bribes and paying Edgerunners for something your boss needs done. You could hide something in that, but the accountants are watching that money like hawks, reading to dive at you at the slightest whiff of potential ability to improve their own standing. What's a corpo to do?

Embezzle, naturally. There are all sorts of ways to hide money, but it takes some creative accounting to get it past those watching your account.

To free up money for personal use, an Exec must first pay 100 eb from the account toward what the bosses would count as a legitimate business expense. "Expediting bureaucracy", for instance. Then choose the amount you want to make available for personal expenses. The more you steal in one go, the harder it is to make that money disappear.

To embezzle, roll Accounting+Intelligence with DVs as follows:
  • 100-200eb: DV 13
  • 200-500 eb: DV 15
  • 500-1000 eb: DV 17
  • 1000 eb-2500 eb: DV 19
  • 2500 eb-5000 eb: DV 21
If you succeed, the funds will be available to spend next session. If you fail, depending on how much you took, the consequences range anywhere from getting a black mark and your expense privileges removed to demotion to firing (incidentally stranding you on the Crystal Palace). You aren't likely to be assassinated for a mere 5k. Each time you succeed, the difficulty to do it again rises by 1.

On attempting to steal the auction funds: You may attempt to do this. HOWEVER. It will functionally be a mini-adventure in and of itself with multiple moving parts, including NET security, social hacking, and creative maneuvering with off-shore accounts, as well as covering your tracks. It will be god-awfully difficult, and if you fail, you will wish the corporation had just killed you.
